Our pre – School starts with Preparatory Class. You may be interested to understand why GES chose such a name for kids joining school for the first time. This is because the class is designed to expose kids to activities which will help them transit smoothly from home set up environment to school set up environment. Over the first days in school, kids are left to freely interact with school environment and make friendship with the new environment and of course their teacher. After kids are home with school environment, activities aimed at developing cognitive skills, motor / Dexterity and Psycho Social skills are then introduced. by end of Preparatory class, the learner is able to freely express themselves among their peers and familiar faces, able to appropriately use writing tool, do simple formations of sounds and numbers, recognize a few things within environment like colours, shapes, animals and clothes. Above all, they are able to sound in English hence building strong foundation of language.

Basically Pre- School takes the first five years of a child which are key since they experience the most critical rapid changes in a child’s development. During this period they experience rapid change in physical, intellectual, emotional and social growth. Therefore Pre-school years are key determiners to predict ultimate success in school and personal life. They are known as Foundation Stage of Learning.  

Pre-school is foundation of developing pre-reading skills, number work, life skills, and other skills like critical thinking, self-efficacy and communication. We play a lot BUT purposeful and thematic play. Out of play we learn important values like turn taking and safety skills. These years of life are full of discovery and exploration and kids in our school s are exposed to interesting library lessons, computer lessons, music, ballet dance and art work. End of pre- school, PP2 Class witnesses great independence of our learners. For example a PP2 learner is able to comfortably read simple sentences to fluently read simple stories and freely engage in a conversation with almost anybody they come across. They are also able to do aided creative writing. Etiquette is one of the outstanding features with our kids by end of Pre-School.

My appreciation goes to the great Pre-School team. Like eagles train young eagles in taking first humble steps of flying, I have watched you train kids take successful and awesome baby academic steps. Indeed you have patiently waited upon the Lord in helping kids to stop calling ‘aunt…, mummy…’ and transit to calling ‘Tr…..’ no wonder GES Pre- School has continued to Soar High.

At GES, Information Technology (IT) is the backbone. For pre-school, IT is a great source of entertainment. Learners follow stories and songs which in turn build their listening skills. As they mimic actions in songs their Psycho – motor skills are improved. They also follow simple lessons like drawing. For the IT skills, our learners learn how to use a mouse for drawing and colouring.

For primary, learners engage in more challenging tasks, apart from IT being used as a media for delivering some lessons, learners engage in research. It was one of the researching lessons about adaptability of plants; learners discovered socrettea exorrhiza the ‘walking’ palm found in tropical Central and South America. Learners are encouraged to use simple devices like their parents mobile phones for the research. IT skills taught, range from word, excel to coding program.

The school is projecting to dive deeper in world of technology by fitting each class with a Smart Board.
